What is Search Engine Optimisation or SEO?
SEO or Search Engine Optimisation (also known as search engine optimization) is an ongoing process whereby we improve the number of and quality of hits to your website (traffic) gained via the natural search engine results.
What are natural search engine results?
These are the search results that are listed on the left hand side of the search engines results page.
The natural search engine results are also known as:
• organic search engine results
• algorithmic search engine results
• free search engine results
When a search engine user clicks on these natural search engine results it is free to the web site owner. Hence the reason that these traffic results are often referred to as free search engine traffic.
The SEO process work is split across two main areas: on-page SEO factors and off-page SEO factors.
On-page SEO factors are those factors relating to the content on the pages of the web site being optimised for example the page title and key word density.
Off-page SEO factors are all the other factors not situated on the web site being search engine optimized, such as the number of other web sites that link to the web site being optimised.
These links are known as inbound links as they are coming into the web site being optimised.
Search engines such as Google, cannot be paid to gain higher rankings in the natural search engine results. In order to gain better search engine rakings/results, your SEO must include a combination of superior content (on-page SEO factors) on your web site with large numbers of quality inbound links (off-page SEO factors).
